Amid speculation of shift to TDP, 2 YSRCP lawmakers resign

With the resignations of Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav and Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi being accepted, by-elections for the two seats would be held in due course.

Amid speculation that they may join the Telugu Desam Party, two YSR Congress Party MPs from Andhra Pradesh, Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav and Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi, on Thursday resigned from the membership of the Rajya Sabha.

According to Rajya Sabha sources, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar accepted their resignations on Thursday.

Both are first-time Rajya Sabha MPs. While Rao’s term was till 2028, Mopidevi’s term was to end in 2026. With their resignations being accepted, by-elections for the two seats would be held in due course.

Rao, a former TDP MLA, had left the party to join the YSRCP in 2019. Mopidevi was a minister in the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh till his election to the Rajya Sabha in 2020.
