Three militants were killed and three soldiers injured in an encounter in a forest area of Tral in Pulwama district on Thursday. While one of the militants belonged to the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant, two were affiliated to the Hizbul Mujahideen, police said. The condition of the soldiers is said to be stable, officials said.
The militants were identified as Zubair Ahmad Bhat alias Abu Huraira, a resident of Chursoo in Awantipora, Laribal Tral resident Shakoor Ahmad Parray alias Jaffar, and Tawseef Ahmad Thoker alias Abu Talha, a resident of Chursoo Bunpora Awantipora, according to a J&K police spokesperson.
Youths clashed with security personnel in several parts of Awantipora soon after the encounter, leaving nine civilians with pellet injuries, according to health officials. They were referred to health facilites in Awantipora and Tral. “We referred three of the injured to Srinagar for further treatment,” said a health official in Pulwama district.
The spokesperson said the militants, wanted for their involvement in “terror crimes”, were killed after a cordon and search operation was launched in the area on Thursday morning. “All the three terrorists were wanted for their complicity in a series of terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities,” said the spokesperson.
A senior police official said the three had joined militant ranks last year.
