18 held for ‘attacking religious procession’ in Rajasthan village

Eighteen people have been arrested after a religious procession allegedly came under attack in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district on Tuesday night, police said, adding that five people received injuries in the incident.

According to the police at Pahuna village, a religious procession is taken out every month from Char Bhuja Mata temple. When the procession was crossing a lane in the neighbourhood, some people allegedly pelted stones and tried to cause a disruption, police said, adding that clashes between members of two communities followed.

Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Sudhir Joshi said they have taken necessary precautions to stop the situation from deteriorating. “Around 18 people who started the stone pelting were arrested. A few people received minor injuries and they are getting medical help. The situation is under control.”
