One of the main goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission campaign is to construct 12 million toilets in rural India to eradicate open defecation in our country. In order to apply for an Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) construction or conversion, applicants first need to register themselves on the IHHL website. The application form for registering on the website asks for details like (a) Name (b) Mobile Number (c) e-mail (d) address (e) state (f) Identity document type and (g) ID number. Once the required information is submitted, the applicant will be provided with a Login ID and they can login by submitting the OTP number received on their e-mail accounts.
Following this, they will be required to fill out another application form for the latrines. This one is a more detailed form which asks for information like Ward No. of the applicant, particulars of the toilet owner, state of existing toilets and bank account details. The bank account details and the Aadhaar card details are mandatory. In case the applicant does not have an Aadhaar card, a copy of the Aadhaar Enrollment Slip is required. The applicant will also have to upload an image of themselves. The government also allows an option to avail bulk construction of toilets by the ULB through contractor or self-help groups if available.
After the above mentioned information is submitted, an IHHL Application Acknowledgement slip is generated with the Application ID and bank account details. The applicant also receives a copy of the slip in their e-mail accounts which must be preserved for future references.
