Speculation has been rife that the much awaited cabinet reshuffle is finally here. In fact, there are reports that the revamp could take place soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a high-level meeting reviewing the performance of various ministries in the last two years.

Talks of a rejig in the Union Cabinet has been doing the rounds ever since the BJP-led government completed two years in office. It was supposed to coincide with the Assembly election results in May. However, the reshuffle didn’t happen.

Fresh rumours of a reshuffle have gained ground since the past one week. If at all the PM goes for a reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh elections will weigh heavily on his mind. In that case the PM could elevate Sanjeev Balyan, MoS for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, as minister with independent charge.

There were indications that the BJP would like to see Apna Dal MP Anupriya Patel in the government, as the party is focusing on non-Yadav OBC votes in the state. As per a report on CNN News 18, controversial Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath is likely to be inducted in the government.

The PM is unlikely to make changes in key ministries. But Union Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilizers Nihal Chand could be dropped from the government while Arjun Meghwal, another senior leader from Rajasthan, could be inducted.

Other names doing the rounds as possible entrants are Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh and Mangaldoi (Assam) MP Raman Deka. BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, who recently became Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra, is also being considered.

Some channels, including NDTV are reporting that Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan may be elevated to  Cabinet rank. Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla could be dropped from the government.
