A bill backed by the late US senator Lindsey Graham, aimed at squeezing Russia’s revenue from oil and gas exports, now has a new version. Following Graham’s sudden demise last week, a bipartisan group of US senators on Tuesday unveiled the revised version of the Russia sanctions bill, which includes provisions for debilitating tariffs on the top buyers of Russian energy, including India, the second-biggest export market for Russian crude.

Although it remains to be seen whether the bill will turn into law in its current form, considering the original bill failed to move beyond the initial phases for over a year, the proposed legislation would certainly be a cause of concern for New Delhi.
