More than 150 years after it was painted, French master Edouard Manet’s “Olympia”, considered one of the earliest modernist paintings, is being exhibited in the United States for the first time.

The canvas depicting a brothel scene, and a real model, is part of the exhibition “Manet/Degas” at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition is on till January.

In the collection of Musée d’Orsay museum in Paris, the 1863 oil painting has only travelled outside France thrice before: to Venice in 2013, where it was exhibited next to Italian painter Titian’s “Venus of Urbino”, and to Moscow and St Petersburg in 2016.
