You Can Now Explore Pench Tiger Reserve On A Cycle
As travellers increasingly seek immersive and sustainable experiences, this initiative provides us a unique opportunity to connect intimately with the wilderness
You might have explored the wild environs of Pench on jeep and canters, but adding a new dimension to wildlife tourism, the Pench Tiger Reserve has introduced cycle safaris, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature on wheels. Straddling the backwaters of Pench Reservoir, your journey on cycle will begin at the Kolitmara gate, situated at a distance of 80 kms from Nagpur.
A Greener Path to Discovery
Nestled in the heart of central India, the Pench Tiger Reserve is renowned for its diverse flora and fauna, and of course, its majestic tigers. While traditional jeep and elephant safaris have been the norm for decades, the introduction of cycle safaris marks a shift towards sustainable and low-impact ecotourism. The cycle safari will be on the Kolitmara to Kunwara Bhivsen stretch, covering a distance of 48 kms. Led by experienced guides, participants will pedal along carefully designed trails that weave through the reserve’s forests and open grasslands.

Kolitmara has been promoting ecotourism in the form of Agrotourism, where travellers can immerse themselves in village based activities like bullock cart safari, cycling, village tour, farming, dining on local village cuisine and fishing. These activities are pursued with support from a guide from the local village.
How To Book A Cycle Safari
While traditional jeep and canter safaris are closed till September, the option of cycle safaris is still available and can be booked via the official website. To rent a cycle from the reserve, travellers will have to shell out ₹300 per day, per cycle, but the safari fee for people bringing their own cycle is ₹100 per person. The charges for a guide amounts to ₹1,000 for a group which can have 2-6 people.
