Navi Mumbai Airport Prepares For Takeoff: All You Need To Know
This is the first time that an Indian city will have two international airports
As India’s aviation industry continues to expand, there is good news at hand. A new landmark is set to grace the skies of Mumbai in 2024—the Navi Mumbai Airport. Positioned as the secondary airport for the bustling metropolis, this state-of-the-art facility promises to ease air travel, bolster economic growth, and provide a seamless experience for both domestic and international travellers.
Located at the centre of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, the new airport, the first two phases of which are expected to be completed by 2024, will decongest Mumbai’s existing airport, providing relief to travellers and enabling smoother operations.

Modern Infrastructure and Design: Designed to handle up to 90 million passengers by 2032, the Navi Mumbai Airport boasts a contemporary and efficient infrastructure. Spread across a sprawling area of 1,160 acres, the airport will be equipped with world-class facilities. Modelled on lotus, the national flower of India, this architectural marvel reflects the cultural heritage of India while integrating cutting-edge technology, ensuring a seamless experience for all passengers. The project is a joint venture of the Adani Group and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).

Enhanced Connectivity: Navi Mumbai Airport will work to improve regional and international connectivity. The distance between the new Navi Mumbai airport and the Mumbai airport will be less than 40 km. It would be connected to the 22-km Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), allowing road access from Mumbai.
Eco-friendly Initiatives: The Navi Mumbai Airport has been designed with a strong focus on sustainability. The project incorporates various eco-friendly initiatives, including energy-efficient systems and solar power generation. All the vehicles used at the airport will be electric.
