It used to be called Siraj Bagh, but in 2007 it was changed to Indira Gandhi Square after the former Prime Minister. That year, the garden was full of tulips that had been shipped from their home country of the Netherlands and grown successfully in the Himalayas. In the same year, the first tulip festival was held. Since then, it has been a sign of spring and the start of the tourist season.
