Monsoon Treks To Take You Off The Beaten Path In Goa
As the monsoon showers drench the land, Goa's charm transcends beyond its beach-lined shores. Embrace the rains, pack your backpack, and head out on an unforgettable monsoon adventure with these treks
While Goa’s beaches will always be our favourite, there is some merit to exploring this sunshine state during monsoon. The lush green landscapes come alive, creating a paradise for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts, especially travellers who want to take their Goan experience beyond the sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife. If you are someone who loves a challenge, here are monsoon treks in Goa for the adventurer in you.

Dudhsagar Falls Trek
Situated on the border of Goa and Karnataka, the Dudhsagar Falls trek promises an awe-inspiring experience. The trail to the 5th tallest waterfall in India takes you through dense forests, streams, and rocky terrain of the Western Ghats, leading to the majestic Dudhsagar Falls. As the rains intensify, this famous waterfall comes alive, cascading down with full force. The trek is best undertaken from July to September when the falls are at their grandest. Don’t forget to carry waterproof gear and sturdy footwear to navigate the challenging but rewarding route.

Tambdi Surla Waterfall Trek
Nestled in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary, the Tambdi Surla Waterfall trek offers a picturesque escape into nature. While many travellers come to visit the Tambdi Surla Temple, the falls, which are situated 90 minutes from the temple, beckon travellers to undertake a journey through lush forests. The monsoon months, from June to September, transform the waterfall into a gushing spectacle, where you can take a refreshing dip in the chilly waters of the fall, if you so desire. Taking a guide on this trek is recommended since the route goes though dense forested areas.

Harvalem Waterfall Trek
Located in the village of Sanquelim, the Harvalem Waterfall, also known as the Arvalem Waterfall offers trekkers a route through verdant forests and small streams and leads to a stunning historic arched bridge which is deemed to be a photographer’s paradise. Close to the falls is the Mayem Lake, as well as Arvalem rock cut caves, believed to have been sculpted by Buddhist monks. Another belief suggests the caves once offered refuge to the Pandavas during their exile years.

Netravali Waterfall Trek
For those seeking an offbeat adventure, the Netravali Waterfall trek is a perfect choice. Situated in the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary, this trek takes you through thick forests and pristine streams to this hidden gem that offers a breathtaking sight during the monsoon months. The hike is about 4 kms long and can be done by both beginners and more experienced trekkers. Make sure to carry food and water to the destination.
Hivrem Waterfalls Trek
At a distance of 90 minutes from Panjim is the Hivrem–Valpoi Fall, a relatively less explored part of Goa. Here trekkers go through lush fields, take a steep climb and cross many small streams to reach these falls. It is a moderately difficult trek which is best taken in groups. The area has other smaller falls in its vicinity, which can be explored by avid trekkers in a day.
