Gateway To India: Dior To Showcase Pre-Fall Collection In Mumbai
The Paris-based luxury house will present its collection at the Gateway of India on March 30th
Dior has been synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship for decades; the luxury brand has been propelled to new heights under creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s keen eye. And Dior’s road to dominion through global craftsmanship is making a halt at Maximum City in India. On March 30th, the Paris-based luxury house will transform the historic Gateway of India in Mumbai into its runway to showcase its pre-fall collection.

Dior has been closely associated with India through Chanakya, a Mumbai-based atelier working with expert artisans for years. Karishma Swali and Monica Shah, who led the brand Jade, founded The Chanakya School of Embroidery and Fine Crafts in 2016 to empower women from underprivileged groups with a source of livelihood. Chanakya has also provided pieces and textiles for Dior’s shows in the past.

The legacy French Maison’s India connection is palpable in a post by Chiuri, which confirmed Dior’s show in India. “I personally wanted to celebrate and showcase the incredible knowledge India offers to the international world of fashion in the field of embroidery, the mastery of the artisans who continue to work on this craft, and the commitment of Chanakya’s founders to preserving India’s history and culture, portrayed by each embroidery technique,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.

Dior’s show follows close at the heels of Lakme Fashion Week, which recently wrapped up in Mumbai, putting one thing in perspective: India is a big market for luxury brands and will continue to spark conversations on international runways.
