Shah Rukh Khan has kept his promise. The Bollywood king — who is the brand ambassador of West Bengal — will be part of of the promotional film on the state to be released in a week’s time.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today cleared a 3-minute promotional — the first-of-its-kind in West Bengal since Independence.

In the film,Khan speaks a few lines in Bengali,urging people to come and visit what is called “Beautiful Bengal’’.

Directed by filmmaker Aniruddha Roychoudhury,the film shows various tourist destination spots in the state.

Khan was proposed the idea of the promotional film when he had come to meet the Chief Minister at Writers’ Buildings six months ago. The actor had readily agreed. For remuneration,he had said: “I will take only a fish fry for this project.’’

The film,shot in both English and Hindi,has showcased the new government’s success in Darjeeling,Junglemahal and other parts of Bengal.It has also shown Bengal’s traditional tourist spots like Santiniketan,Sunderbans,Dakshineswar temple,Fufura Sharif,St Paul’s Cathedral Church,Belur Math,to name a few. “You can see girls riding bicycles in Junglemahal. We have tried to show not only Bengal’s topographical and cultural diversity,we have also tried to show how the state is progressing in the new regime,’’ a member of the film’s crew told The Indian Express.

The Left Front government had steadfastly rejected the idea of having a brand ambassador,saying the state itself was a greatest ambassador for itself.
