First Act trailer: Sarika, Jugal Hansraj, Darsheel Safary reveal challenges faced by child actors
First Act trailer: Prime Video has come up with a six-part docu-series, which explores the journey of child actors and their parents.
Prime Video series First Act will start streaming on December 15.
How do children as young as 9 or 10 decide they want to make a career in acting? Are they pushed by their parents into the profession? How do child actors manage school and doing films/TV shows together? Do they quit their studies once they enter showbiz?
All these questions, which often come to mind every time a child artiste blows away one’s mind with their performance, will be answered soon. Prime Video has come up with a six-part docu-series, titled First Act, which explores the journey of child actors and also their parents.
The trailer begins with a few children sharing why they want to become an actor. While one shares, she wants to be on the TV, another says by becoming an actor, she will be able to achieve ‘everything’. In the video, actor Sarika also shares her experience of being a child actor, when she never got a day off. She says, “I was one of those child actors who did lots of work. There was never a day off.” Jugal Hansraj also appears and shares his experience of starring in the 1983 movie Masoom.
Actor Darsheel Safary, who became a sensation after essaying the role of Ishan Awasthi in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par, shared, “People work for 30-40 years, and I got it in my first year, my first film. But now the scary part is.. what next?” Actor Parzan Dastur, who appeared as a child actor in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Parzania, also shared how one has to “develop a thick skin” to be okay when nobody calls you back after the audition.
The docu-series will also have filmmakers like Shoojit Sircar and Amole Gupte, who have worked closely with child artists, and casting directors such as Mukesh Chhabra, Honey Trehan, and Tess Joseph, giving an insight into the subject.
As per the official statement, “As the series unfolds the varied experiences of those who have walked this path, it highlights the importance for the parents of these artists, and the industry to prioritize the well-being of children, advocating for a safe and balanced childhood.”
Deepa Bhatia has written, produced, and directed First Act. It will stream on Prime Video on December 15.
