On the eve of Anushka Shetty’s birthday, the teaser of her upcoming film Nishabdham was released. The short clip gives the audience a glimpse at a horror-thriller from an industry which is mostly devoting its attention and resources into churning out horror-comedy films. A terror-inducing and unapologetically spooky film was long overdue in the industry.

If the teaser is anything to go by, Nishabdham, which means “silence”, aims to fill that void. Written and directed by Hemant Madhukar, the film features Hollywood actor Michael Madsen, who is one of the regulars in Quentin Tarantino’s movies. Remember, Mr Blonde, the smouldering psychopath who tortures a cop in Reservoir Dogs? He seems to be playing a cop in the bilingual film, which has been shot in Telugu, Hindi and English. And, yes, he still seems to be hurting people.

The teaser tells us about the horror in the life of a couple, played by Anushka Shetty and Madhavan, after they rent a house to spend their vacation in the United States. Their trip hits a bump due to some paranormal activity in their house. And, needless to say, things are about to become weird.

Nishabdham also stars Subbaraju Shalini, Pandey Srinivas and Avasarala among others.

It has been a while since we saw Anushka Shetty in action on the big screen. Her last full-fledged film was horror film Bhaagamathie, which came out in 2018. She made a brief appearance in Chiranjeevi-starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which released earlier this year.
