The recently released Malayalam movie 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero is swiftly emerging as one of the most successful films in the industry’s history. Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and featuring a stellar cast including Tovino Thomas, Indrans, Kunchacko Boban, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and Asif Ali, the film depicts the catastrophic Kerala floods of 2018. According to industry trackers, it has already amassed over Rs 140 crore worldwide.

In the midst of this tremendous success, the movie’s makers recently announced the release of its Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions nationwide on May 26. The Telugu adaptation of the film is being released by producer Bunny Vasu, renowned for bankrolling blockbuster movies like 100% Love and Geetha Govindam.

The film’s makers, accompanied by Bunny Vasu and his close associate, the acclaimed filmmaker Harish Shankar, are currently busy promoting the movie in the Telugu states.

In the meantime, a clip from their recent press meet in Hyderabad, featuring Harish confronting a reporter, has gone viral on social media.

According to a report by NTV, during the media conference, a reporter posed a question to the Telugu team, particularly targeting Bunny Vasu, asking whether they would draw inspiration from watching 2018 and consider backing a similar realistic film in the future. The reporter asked, “After watching this film, can our Telugu directors create something similar? Can a Telugu producer embark on such an audacious endeavour? Did you, as a producer, feel compelled to undertake such a project?”

Acknowledging that the question was better suited for a director, Vasu handed over the microphone to Harish Shankar, who swiftly launched into a blistering response directed at the reporter, identified as Suresh Kondeti. Harish remarked, “Lately, I’ve been observing on YouTube. In every press conference, Suresh Kondeti poses provocative questions that no one else dares to ask. They go viral on YouTube and create a trend.”

“In this modern era, we find ourselves in a remarkable position where cinema technology is literally at our fingertips. Films like RRR, Baahubali, and KGF were not perceived as mere dubbed movies. There is no such thing as a dubbed or remade movie. It is only cinema! We should be happy with the global reach that we are receiving today and all are looking at Telugu directors. We are proud of 2018 – Everyone is a Hero movie and its director. We all should appreciate it when we are trying to bring a good movie,” he added.

“You are asking if our artistes and directors can make movies like this… It’s a shame to ask such a question at a time when the whole world is watching Telugu movies. There is nothing wrong with releasing dubbed movies. You have to appreciate the effort put in to deliver a good movie to the audience,” Harish Shankar pointed out.
