Dhruva has made good on its promise and earned over Rs 64.4 crore worldwide within the first week of its release. The film earned over $1.5 million in the US alone.

According to Andhra Box Office numbers, the film collected Rs 64.4 crore worldwide with a gross sum of Rs 42.5 crore coming from both the Telugu speaking states alone. In the US, Tuesday saw the film earning $42,416 at the ticket windows, which brought the film’s total earnings to $1,054,159 (Rs 7.15 crore), reported trade analysts. The film made $223,871 on the premiere day and $244,214 on the first Friday of its release in the US.

More from the world of Entertainment:

The film was earlier postponed to save it from the effects of demonetisation. In fact, Dhruva producers reportedly requested Suriya’s Singam 3 filmmakers to postpone S3 to avoid a box office clash. Singam 3 will now release on December 23.

Dhruva is the official Telugu remake of Tamil blockbuster Thani Oruvan. It has Jayam Ravi playing the daredevil cop. The music is composed by Hiphop Tamizha, who also composed for the Tamil original, and cinematography is by PS Vinod. Under Surender Reddy’s direction, the film also features Rakul Preet Singh who plays Ram Charan’s ladylove, apart from Arvind Swami who is playing a negative role.

The film got good reviews and was expected to be a big show for the star as it packs some heavy-duty action sequences shot in exotic and remote locations.

If the Dhruva’s collections stay at the current pace, the sum, as expected by trade pundits, might touch the Rs 100-crore mark.
