After delivering a decent commercial film Most Eligible Bachelor last year, Akhil Akkineni has failed to sustain his momentum with Agent, which has turned out to be a box office dud and has been facing the wrath of critics as well. The film, directed by Surender Reddy of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Kick 2 fame, has been panned for its screenplay and wafer-thin storyline.

Now, Agent’s producer Anil Sunkara of AK Entertainment has come forward and accepted the responsibility for the failure of the film. The producer cited improper planning and not having a bound script as reasons for the underwhelming movie. In a tweet, he wrote, “We have to take the entire blame for #Agent. Though we know its an uphill task, we thought of conquering but failed to do so as we did a blunder starting the project without a bound script & innumerable issues including covid followed. We don’t want to give any excuses but learn from this costly mistake and see how we can turnaround to make sure, we will never repeat the mistakes. Our sincere apologies to all those who put trust on us. We will make it up for the losses with dedicated planning & hardwork in our future projects (sic).”

Raghu Bandi of Indianexpress.com gave Agent two stars, and wrote, “Somewhere between a huge Surender Reddy film and Akhil Akkineni film, Agent falters in truly belonging to either zone and ends up as an average action film.”

Agent also stars Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Bollywood actor Dino Morea in pivotal roles.
