AMC is making a trilogy of films based on the primary protagonist Rick Grimes of their zombie drama The Walking Dead. It was widely believed that Rick Grimes, played by English actor Andrew Lincoln, will meet his end in season 9 of the show. The marketing and hype leading up to the season had also hinted that Grimes will somehow be killed off.

But the episode ended with Rick being rescued by a helicopter and taken to an unknown destination. While the show has faked deaths before, this was the most shocking one. Now it has been revealed that the AMC is not ready to give up Andrew Lincoln and his character just yet. A trilogy of movies is in development at the network with Rick Grimes as the main character. The first movie will go into production next year. They will be broadcast on the network.

While speaking to The New York Times, Andrew Lincoln said about the movies, “We talked about Unforgiven, the Clint Eastwood movie, which I admire greatly. There’s something about Eastwood, who he is as a gunslinger, as an iconic kind of American hero, rolling around in pig swill at the beginning of the movie. You know what he’s capable of, and I thought the idea of a character that the audience knows and has lived with — and who has oscillated between psycho and father for nine years — to start in a completely different place, was a really interesting, crazy place to begin. I want to know why we keep seeing helicopters flying around. What’s going on? What have the grown-ups been doing while we’ve been scrambling around in the dirt?”

When asked to elaborate what he meant by “grownups”, Andrew said, “I’m not going to say any more than that. I don’t want to give away — well, I don’t know the story actually, so I can’t give anything away.”
