Like a phoenix, the team of Pehredaar Piya Ki have risen above the ashes of the controversy and started afresh with their new show Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya. While the crux of the story will remain the same, of a girl protecting the heir of a kingdom over a promise she made to the boy’s dying father, the makers promise that there’s a lot more on offer. Tejasswi Prakash who played the lead in the first installment is back as the hero to carry the show on her tender shoulders. Talking about her role in this new show, Tejasswi in an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com said, “Diya is a completely different character. She has grown a lot, made a lot of mistakes and learned from all of it. She has also evolved as a person and is now a new person living a life that might not seem normal to many.”
While Tejasswi mentioned that she wasn’t deterred by the controversies surrounding Pehredaar Piya Ki, she did feel that it could have been handled better. “As an actor I was doing my job, coming on sets and shooting not really reacting to what people were saying. I don’t know why some in the audience took it as a romantic relationship between a kid and a grown-up girl when it was all about a guard trying to protect the prince. But if they did, somehow it was our fault and I take the onus. I am sure the audience will have no complains with this show.”
When asked how she reacted when the makers informed that a new show will be launched, the young actor smiled to share, “I was really happy when they called me for this. It was a logical decision to end Pehredaar Piya Ki for any way a lot of people didn’t get it. During the break, I did get a lot of offers but it’s genuinely a happy feeling when producers and channel call you back as you realise that they enjoyed working with you.”
While Tejasswi is just 25-years-old, she will be seen essaying the role of a woman five years older to herself. She stated, “It was really difficult to convince myself as I don’t know how to portray it. I don’t even look 30 (laughs) but the team is working hard to make it look real.” And as we mentioned that there is a buzz that she is charging a bomb to play an older woman, she giggled out loud to say, “Really? I don’t know if what I am getting is called charging a bomb but I am happy with my remunerations.”
The Swaragini actor will also be seen doing a lot of action playing the strong bodyguard. Taking us through her experience, she said, “I did all the action sequences without a body double. Though initially surprised the action masters then became quite confident that I would be able to pull off whatever they gave me. Since we were on a packed outdoor schedule, I knew I did not have much time and thus took on all of it quite swiftly.”
Though the show has been repackaged into a new one, the age difference between the girl and the boy still remains intact. Tejasswi on her part mentioned that she is completely fine with it. “I think I will be okay with falling in love with a guy who’s 10-years older or younger to me. I think people shouldn’t judge couples in love. It is an emotion that can surprise you in a lot of ways.”
Lastly, sharing a message for her fans, the young actor said, “Honestly, my fans can expect different things from the shows that I take up. I am extremely proud to be a part of this entertaining show. It will keep you hooked with its thrill, drama, emotions and romance. Keep the love and support coming guys!”
Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya stars Rohit Suchanti as the male lead and it airs Monday-Friday, 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
