Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been entertaining fans for almost 15 years now. For producer Asit Kumarr Modi, the motivation to carry on comes from a song from the show. “Problem hai toh sabke sath, nazariya ki hai baat (Everyone has problems, it’s all about how you look at it),” he crooned while speaking to indianexpress.com.

Talking about his journey, Modi shared how it has not been simple and came with many lows. However, he believes in carrying on and working hard. “Some people left the show, and there have been issues in the team but for me, I have ensured that I do no wrong with anyone. I don’t want to upset anyone. This show is about comedy and I believe in spreading joy and laughter,” the producer added.

Decoding the reason why actors move out, Asit Kumarr Modi said some get ‘tired’ playing the same part and sometimes it’s trivial issues that become big. “However, I don’t want to let go of anyone. This show requires continuous efforts, which not everyone can give. Also, many want to leave and become bigger stars, which is a bigger risk, in my opinion,” he shared. Modi added that mostly producers are looked at as the ones doing wrong when it’s the opposite. He also said that everyone has an issue with the ones who hire them in every field. “My only responsibility is to keep my audience happy.”

When asked to share the highlight of his Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah journey, Modi shared, “When we were chosen by PM Narendra Modiji for the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan. He had mentioned the power of a TV show and that really was a proud moment for us. Also, when we get to know that people across the world, who may not even know our language, love watching the show. It makes my chest swell in pride. You wouldn’t believe our show is also watched in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. We even have an audience in Pakistan. Whatever our relationship be with them, it feels so special that we have managed to spread laughter across the world. That’s the beauty of our show. We have always believed in spreading harmony, even our show talks about different cultures coming together.”

While he has been running the show successfully for 15 years, Asit Kumarr Modi recently also launched games and even a YouTube channel for nursery rhymes. He shared how this is the first time something like this is happening with a TV show. “We have achieved the kind of success that no other show has got. And now, I wanted to take the characters out of the TV set. I want to build a universe with my characters. I really feel Indians have a lot of talent but we don’t want to think big. I don’t want to limit myself and want to show the world ke dekho, ek show se kya kya bana sakte hai (See, what all we can do with just one show).”

When asked whether he next plans to launch a film, the producer smiled to say, “Woh bhi banayenge (We will make that too). I really believe that everything has its own time. Not just a film may be a web series or even an animation live-action – I don’t want to limit myself. I have a lot of plans.”

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah airs on SonySAB.
