Rannvijay Singha is not just the face of MTV, he is also instrumental in making Roadies the most sort after show for an entire generation for decades. From being its first winner to hosting it, and now becoming a regular on several other reality shows, Rannvijay has come a long way.
Rannvijay, who recently launched his own app, has won hearts with his anchoring skills in the adventure show Roadies and later was even on its judges’ panel with Raghu Ram and Rajiv. For his fans, Rannvijay has been an epitome of perfection. Be it his spot-on looks, his way of putting across his point of view or his sense of judgement, all of it has earned the anchor-actor immense love of the audience. And with another reality show, Splitsvilla, the 34-year-old became a darling among girls.
Recently, Rannvijay was seen hosting the tenth season of Splitsvilla, a show that makes young boys and girls find their perfect match with a little help from Sunny Leone. The winner of the show, Priyank Sharma made it to the news for his short stint inside the Bigg Boss 11 house. He was ousted for getting violent with fellow contestant Akash Dadlani. When we asked Rannvijay about his reaction to Priyank’s shocking elimination, he told indianexpress.com, “I was in Spain when all of this happened. I got a missed call from Priyank when I returned. I was surprised to know that he got evicted. I asked him if he thinks that he was wrong. He just said he was not wrong. I asked him if he regrets it. He said, ‘I stood up for something that I believed in.’ So I was like if you did what you thought was right and you had to suffer through its repercussions, then its fine.”
Defending Priyank’s action, Rannvijay added, “Sometimes in life you do things just because you are young. But if it is done for the right reason and if you have the courage to take the repercussion then it is ok.” Having said this the anchor-actor also said that he would like to know the other side of the story too. “I really want to know the other side of the story. Because I myself have been doing many reality shows. So, I don’t know how much of it was edited. There are a lot of times when contestants instigate each other. If you can get a strong contestant evicted with an act like this, then it is a game played very well,” quipped Rannvijay who shared the screen space with Salman Khan in London Dreams.
However, Priyank was called back to the show after twenty days with a warning to not reveal the details of the outside world to the housemates. But, Priyank didn’t adhere to it and was seen talking about the personal life of Arshi for which he was called out by the host of the show, Salman Khan. On Monday’s episode, the reality show winner got nominated for eviction for breaking the rules yet again.
Reality shows have taken the centre stage on Indian television but they are receiving a lot of flak for being scripted. But Rannvijay who has been associated with these for a long time now thinks that if these shows were scripted then the contestants of the reality shows would have been the best actors in the industry. He said, “If Roadies and Splitsvilla were scripted, these contestants would have been the best actors of the world. You think that we can give people scripts for how to react and they would react exactly like that and fight or love each other and do everything as told? Had they been such good actors, we would already have got their autographs or signed them for Bollywood.”
Elaborating on it, Rannvijay quipped, “It is the situation that the makers of a show orchestrate. But how will a person react when he wins or loses or how will he react when someone else gets an advantage is the real reaction of that person. This is why we make sure that while taking the auditions for Roadies or Splitsvilla we get to know that person. I have to make a situation where two different personalities either get along or they don’t. So I have to get different characters so that they fight or bond with each other. What you get to witness in these shows is a result of casting abilities of the pre-production team.”
