Actor comedian Suresh Menon was aghast when he heard news of his good old friend Kiku Sharda aka Palak’s arrest for imitating Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Speaking exclusively to IndianExpress.com, Suresh Menon said, “Firstly I was surprised when I learnt about his arrest. Apparently, there is some law under which he has been arrested. Some followers got upset because some item was done. They should be happy infact because imitation is the best form of flattery. But the followers don’t understand English. Another thing which is scary is the Haryana police coming to Mumbai and whisking an actor away without taking permission of the local cops. In view of all these things I feel that somewhere a stand has to be taken on issues like these and not make the courts also go through ridiculous accusations that end up being a time waste and good people land inside custody.” (Read: Kiku Sharda aka Palak arrested, sent to 14 days judicial custody for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Kiku Sharda has been arrested and sent to 14 days judicial custody and is currently in Kaithal, Haryana.

“What nonsense is this! Criminals are walking scot-free.These followers have no humanity. This man who stands for Baba Ram Rahim should be telling his followers, ‘What are you doing. Just chill. It’s okay.’ This is the last thing we need in our country. Someone who makes people laugh is put in custody,” he added.

When asked if issues like this would restrain him from imitating real-life babas and gurus, Suresh said, “I have always maintained imitation is one of the oldest art forms in Indian culture. It is called Behrupiya. It is God given talent. If people are obsessed someone is imitating them or their voice, then there is only one way to look at it. I have been given a certain skill which has come from God himself. So if these people want to question that fact then what they are doing is directly telling me I can’t work and I can’t earn money. They are depriving me from providing for my family. So I would want them to pay me one crore each so that I will stop mimicking them for ever. That is my stand.”
