Priyanka Chopra is among the world’s 10 highest paid television actresses, with her ABC TV show Quantico and endorsements netting her $11 million in earnings, according to Forbes. This makes her Priyanka Chopra effectively India’s highest paid actress for Deepika Padukone — who ranked 10th on Forbes’ world’s highest-paid actresses — earned $10 million in the same duration.
The Forbes top paid TV actresses’ list was headed once again by Modern Family star Sofia Vergara who earned $43 million this year. On the second slot on the Forbes list is The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco with $24.5 million and The Mindy Project’s Mindy Kaling, another person of Indian origin, takes the third spot with $15 million.
Followed by a tie for fourth place between Ellen Pompeo and Mariska Hargitay, who both made $14.5 million. Castle star Stana Katric, who like Priyanka makes a debut on the list, is placed at seventh position. Another newcomer on the rankings is Julia Louis-Dreyfus (‘The Good Wife’). Kerry Washington of “Scandal” fame finds herself at sixth position, with $13.5 million earnings. The list comprises 15 highest paid actresses.
Priyanka is at present shooting for the second season of Quantico which sees her as CIA officer Alex Parrish who will be called to save the world yet again. Quantico season 2 will premiere late in September. The actress is also ready with her Hollywood debut Baywatch, which will see her starring with Dwayne Johnson — Forbes’ highest paid actor — and Zac Efron. A de facto Bollywood star back home, the actress has been mentioned as a TV celeb by Forbes due to her work in Quantico getting her a lot of recognition in the US.
Talking about Priyanka Chopra, who has featured on the Forbes’ list for the first time, the magazine wrote, “New to the list is Priyanka Chopra, who stars on ABC’s Quantico. While Chopra may be relatively new to an American audience, she is one of the most famous faces in India. In the past year, she has starred in two Bollywood mega films (Bajirao Mastani and Jai Gangaajal) and will take her big-screen talent stateside later this year with one of the lead roles in Baywatch alongside Hollywood heavy-hitters including Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest-paid actor.”
Forbes also spoke about Priyanka’s endorsement deals, “But like most television actresses (and actresses, in general), her millions are not made from screen time alone. Chopra is one of India’s top picks for advertisers, recently winning a seven-figure deal with sparkling juice brand Appy Fizz.”
Priyanka has had a rewarding year. She presented an award at Academy Awards, won a People’s Choice Award herself, was chosen among TIME’s 100 most influential people, has been named among ‘Hollywood Royalty’ by W magazine and met US President Baerack Obama. On Wednesday itself, Priyanka was on the cover of New York Post.
Also new to the Forbes list are Castle star Stana Katic and Veep lead Julia Louis-Dreyfus. What works for TV’s favour is that there is no major gender wage gap unlike Hollywood and Bollywood.
