Actors Nathan Fillion and Martin Short will make a guest appearance on the popular American sitcom Modern Family. The show’s executive producer Steve Levitan revealed the casting at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, reports variety.com.
Fillion — whose popular crime-comedy-drama television series Castle was cancelled in May after eight seasons — will play Rainer Shine, a local weatherman who becomes entangled with the Dunphy family. Short, who is also set to appear in NBC’s Hairspray Live, will guest star in episode two of the upcoming season as promotional maven Merv Schechter.
Castle star Nathan Fillion earlier said that he will miss his co-star Stana Katic, who announced that she is leaving the show after the current season 8. In the crime drama, Fillion played Richard Castle, a best-selling mystery novelist, and Katic is seen as Kate Beckett, an NYPD homicide detective, who together solve various unusual crimes in New York City. “Castle has been one of the greatest joys of my creative life, and I hope the show continues on for years to come,” Fillon said.
“Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television. I wish her well and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed,” the actor added.
Fillion is in talks to reprise his role as Richard Castle for the next ninth season.
Although the show was named after his character, Katic’s role as detective Beckett has been as a prominent one.
While Beckett is going to be written off, two other detectives played by Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas are expected to return for more.
