Anupamaa happens to be one of the most recognisable Indian television shows of at least this century. However, the show has also been surrounded with controversy on more than one occasion, and actor Madalsa Sharma’s exit from the project definitely raised some eyebrows. In a recent interview, the actor talked about the show, her exit, and her relationship with her co-stars, especially with actor Rupali Ganguly.

While talking to Pinkvilla, Madalsa first appreciated what the show did for her career. She complimented the makers and acknowledged how tough it is to keep a show on the top of a field that is so saturated with content.

She said, “I never even considered moving to any other show because, first of all, it wouldn’t have been ethical, and second, I was getting a lot of love from the audience. The makers of Anupama were extremely talented, and it takes a lot of effort and skill to be able to keep a show on the top of Indian television for multiple years.”

Addressing her exit, Madalsa said, “After 4 years, they felt like it was time to take a leap, and that leap was a 15-year jump. Now you don’t change much in a year’s time, but in 15 years, your entire look changes; the dynamic around you changes too. So I sat down with Rajan Shahi, sir, and we mutually decided that it was time for me to move on.”

She was then asked about her supposed rift with the lead star of the show, Rupali Ganguly. Madalsa admitted that when people are working on a project for so long, they are bound to disagree with each other at some point. “All these things happen on every single set, and thodhi bohot anban ho jaati hai (some disagreements happen), but eventually we are all a part of the same project. If something happens, we hug it out the next morning, and everything goes back to normal. I don’t think I can pinpoint anything that I didn’t like; everything was fine. But I haven’t met her since my exit,” said Madalsa.

The actor also talked about her marriage with Mimoh Chakraborty, son of legendary actors Mithun Chakraborty and Yogeeta Bali. She said that despite marrying into a family with an enormous amount of legacy, she never felt pressured to change herself. She lauded her parents-in-law for their liberal thinking and said that she still learns new things from them every day.

She said, “I had established myself and my identity before my marriage. Nothing really changed after that, because the family I married into never tried to take away my personal identity. They accepted it gracefully and beautifully. I never had to change myself, and everything fell into place very organically. My in-laws are very liberal, and I learn so much from them every single day.”

She also revealed that Mithun is a very good and innovative cook. “There is no dish he can’t make. He invents his own recipes. He makes it so well that we feel we have never eaten the dish before. He shoots 28 days a month but whenever he is at home, he cooks,” she said.
