Indian Idol 10: Salim-Suleiman to be first guest judges after Anu Malik’s exit

Anu Malik had announced that he is taking a break from Indian Idol 10 after singers Sona Mahapatra and Shweta Pandit accused him of sexual harassment.

A day after composer Anu Malik announced he was taking a break from Indian Idol amid multiple sexual harassment allegations against him, musician duo Salim-Suleiman have confirmed they would replace him on the next episode of the singing reality show, which is currently running in its tenth season.

Sony TV issued a statement on Sunday, saying it would bring big names from the music industry as guest judges on Indian Idol as Malik’s replacement. The show has Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar as its two permanent judges.

Salim Merchant confirmed to about judging the next episode of the show along with his brother Suleiman. When asked if they would be associated with the show only for an episode, Salim replied, “As of now…”

The pressure on Sony to remove Anu Malik from the show had been building from the past few days after singers Sona Mahapatra and Shweta Pandit accused him of sexual harassment. In the late hours of Saturday, there was a report that Sony had asked him to step down from the show.

When reached out to Malik, he denied the channel asked him to leave the show, and instead said, “I have taken a stand. I have issued a statement to the channel that I have decided to take a break from Indian Idol as I am currently unable to focus on my work on the show. The channel has been kind to agree for the same.”
