Aamir Ali opens up about being sexually harassed at 14, stopped travelling in trains after harrowing incident: ‘I was being touched’

Aamir Ali, who has primarily worked as an actor in television shows, recently recalled an incident of sexual harassment he faced as a teenager. Aamir shared that he was just 14 at the time and the incident traumatised him so much that he stopped taking trains in Mumbai. He said that this incident led him to having certain “reservations” about men who are sexually attracted to other men but as he grew older, he realised that he shouldn’t be painting all gay men in the same light because of one unsavoury experience he had as a teenager.

In a chat with Hauterrfly, Aamir was asked about his gay friends and the actor said that he initially had some “reservations.” “When you are young and the first time I traveled in a train… The reason I stopped travelling in trains because I was being touched. I was 14. Then I started started holding my bag closer to my back side. Then one day, someone stole books from my bag and I was like ‘Who steals books?’ And I decided I won’t travel in a train,” he said.

Aamir Ali said he had a couple of friends who came out to him and that is when he realised that he shouldn’t be judgmental because of his past experience. “Then, I had a couple of friends who came out and said that they have feelings for a man, and I know them so well. They are like my brothers. I can sleep with them on the same bed. And when they came out, then I felt like that just because of a couple of experiences, I can’t judge the whole world. When you mature, you understand, your thoughts change,” he said.

Aamir Ali was previously married to actor Sanjeeda Sheikh. In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Aamir shared that he was not in a good place after his divorce. He also shared that after the divorce, he is not in touch with his 6-year-old daughter Arya. In the same interview, he shared that he is now dating Ankita Kukreti.
