There’s nothing new with the trend of comedians turning heroes in Tamil cinema, and Yogi Babu is the latest to follow in the footsteps of Vadivelu, Vivekh, Santhanam and Karunas among others. The actor, who was last seen in the Nayanthara starrer Kolamaavu Kokila, will make his debut as lead actor with fantasy comedy Dharma Prabhu.
The first look poster, which was released on Friday, reminds one of Thambi Ramiah’s directorial venture Indiralohathil Na Azhagappan (2008).
Directed by Muthukumaran of Kanni Rasi fame, Dharma Prabhu is set against the fictional premise of Yamaloka and Yogi Babu will play the Lord Yama. The movie is produced by Sri Vaari Films
“There’s a tug of war between the family heir (Yogi Babu) and Chitragupta (Karunakaran). What follows eventually is presented in a hilarious way,” a source said.
“A whopping budget has been allocated to the set work of Yamaloka and the art direction plays an important role in shaping the film. The makers will be shooting extensively in Chennai, and for songs, they are heading abroad. The shooting will start from December, and will be completed in a short span of time,” the source added.
Meanwhile, Yogi Babu has 100, Gurkha, Sarkar, Viswasam, and Kaatrin Mozhi in the pipeline.
