In Tamil Nadu, if someone is named Gopal, there’s a high chance that his friends sometimes call him ‘Govaaaluuu’ because that’s how Vadivelu pronounces the name in an iconic scene from Rajinikanth’s blockbuster film Chandramukhi (2005). Such is the impact of the character in Tamil mainstream. Murugesan is one of the many popular characters played by Vadivelu, which continues to dominate Tamil pop culture in the form of memes. And with Chandaramukhi 2, Vadivelu is returning as Murugesan. The actor, who was last seen in Maamannan, has started the dubbing work for his character. A video of Vadivelu from the dubbing studio has been released on YouTube.

The video features Vadivelu having a fun time dubbing for the role. He is seen improvising the lines–a well-known practice done by comedians in Tamil. He can also be seen laughing at the scenes himself. Here’s the video:

Murugesan is an insecure and cowardly person in Chandramukhi. Rajinikanth’s Dr Saravanan character keeps playing with his insecurities and fears throughout the film leading to some great laughs. It is not clear if the second part, starring Raghava Lawrence in the lead role, is a continuation of the 2005 film or has a new storyline.

Vadivelu was last seen in Maari Selvaraj’s Maamannan as a Dalit politician. In contrast to his comedy roles, the actor played a serious and brooding character, which was lauded by critics and audiences alike. Now, with Chandramukhi 2, the actor will return to his default mode.

Directed by P Vasu, Chandramukhi 2 also stars Kangana Ranaut, who was last seen in Tamil in J Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivii. Radikaa Sarathkumar, Srushti Dange, Lakshmi Menon, and Mahima Nambiar are other actors in the film, which has music by Oscar-award winner MM Keeravani. The film will be released on September 19.
