Tamil star “Chiyaan” Vikram is currently basking in the massive success of his latest outing Thangalaan, which has grossed over Rs 100 crore globally in less than two weeks since its release. To celebrate this significant achievement, Vikram hosted a special, traditional success party for the film’s team. Now, a video from the event has gone viral on social media, with many praising the actor’s humility.
The video shows Vikram, clad in traditional attire — a white shirt and veshti (dhoti) — serving food to his team members, who are seated in front of banana leaves ready to enjoy a lavish feast. The clip quickly grabbed the attention of all on social media, with many viewers applauding Vikram’s down-to-earth nature, while fans gathered to express their deep love for the star. Studio Green, which bankrolled Thangalaan, also shared photos from the celebration, capturing Vikram seated among his colleagues, savouring the moment.
Taking to Instagram to share a few pictures with her co-stars, including Vikram, actor Parvathy Thiruvothu, who plays a key role in Thangalaan, wrote: “Yesterday was magical! Thank you @the_real_chiyaan for hosting the most sumptuous feast for us Thangalaaners!! It was so good to see everyone again! 🥹♥️.”
Helmed by Pa Ranjith, the movie is bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja, with cinematography by A Kishor Kumar, editing by Selva RK and music by GV Prakash Kumar. Besides Vikram and Parvathy, Thangalaan features Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone and Pasupathy in key roles.
“I wanted to use the magical realism to connect this film with the audience. The story of Thangalaan has antecedents in mythology. But what is mythology? Isn’t it history with a bit of belief and faith. I wanted to tap into that to say the story of Thangalaan,” Ranjith said about Thangalaan during a recent press meet.
In his review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Avinash Ramachandran wrote, “Pa Ranjith conjures up a familiar world with familiar beats but gives it a neo-magical touch that reimagines the plight of the oppressed by giving their thoughts a platform, and meaning to their suffering.”
