Tamil superstar Vijay is gearing up for the release of Sarkar on Tuesday, coinciding with the Deepavali celebrations. Considering the pre-release buzz around the movie, the Vijay starrer is expected to set the box office on fire.
Reports suggest that the movie will hit more than 3000 screens around the world on Tuesday. Sarkar is easily the biggest Diwali release down south and is expected to set new collection records from the opening day itself. The movie has, reportedly, made more than Rs 100 crore from the sale of its theatrical rights.
Sarkar had recently courted controversy after filmmaker Varun Rajendran accused director AR Murgadoss of stealing the story of the former’s film Sengol. The controversy got complicated when Varun’s complaint against Sarkar received the support of the South Indian Film Writers Association under filmmaker K Bhagyaraj’s leadership. After probing the complaint, Bhagyaraj said the core plot of Sarkar and Sengol were same and this put Murgadoss in a tight spot.

Before the plagiarism case came up for hearing in the Madras High Court, an out-of-court agreement was reached. As part of the deal, Varun was promised that a letter of appreciation, for imagining a Sarkar-like script about 11 years ago, will be shown at the beginning of the Vijay starrer.
The controversy even claimed a casualty. Bhagyaraj tendered his resignation just six months after he was named the president of South Indian Film Writers Association. Bhagyaraj said he was not under any pressure and he was quitting the post, taking moral responsibility for revealing the plot of Sarkar.
