Vada Chennai was a dream project for director Vetrimaaran and actor Dhanush. The highlight of the gangster film was its characters convincingly played by seasoned actors. While Dhanush’s Anbu was a showstopper, Rajan played by Ameer became the crowd favourite.
At a press meet before the release of the movie earlier this month, Dhanush noted that Vetrimaaran adores the Rajan character so much that he wanted to make a standalone film on him. However, the director seems to have better plans for the local gangster character.
Vetrimaaran has confirmed that he will be making the prequel to Vada Chennai as a web series. The series apparently titled Rajan Vagaira will tell the story of how Rajan became the king of ‘Vada Chennai’.
Further details regarding the web-series have been kept under wraps. It is also unclear whether director-actor Ameer will reprise Rajan in the web series too.
Vada Chennai tracks the life of a good-hearted young man, who rises to the occasion as a saviour of Vada Chennai (North Chennai) inhabitants. The film opened to glowing reviews from critics and continues to perform well at the box office too.
Vetrimaaran and Dhanush will make two more films in the Vada Chennai franchise. The shooting for the second part will commence next year. In the meantime, the director has already started making another film with Dhanush. The untitled project is the big screen adaptation of Tamil novel Vekkai and is expected to go on floors soon.
