As Chennai is limping back to normalcy from the destruction caused by cyclone Vardha, the makers of Singam 3 have decided to postpone the release date again. According to sources, an official announcement on the new release date will me made soon.
“Dear all! #S3 stands postponed due to several external factors not under our control!Believe it’s for the larger good!Need all your support!,” actor Suriya posted on his Twitter page.
Adding to the cash woes of people, the cyclone has badly hit the telecom and internet services, making ATM machines and PoS swipe machines useless. And the makers of the Suriya-starrer are weary that it might keep the audience from visiting theatres and thus affect the film’s box office collection.
After being postponed twice, the film was finally gearing up to release on December 23. Singam 3 was first announced as a Diwali release, later it was postponed citing several reasons. However, the industry was abuzz that Suriya wanted to avert a clash with his brother Karthi’s Kaashmora. It was expected to open in theatres on December 16. And again, it was pushed by a week at the request of the makers of Telugu film Dhruva.
Dhruva is the official Tamil remake of Thani Oruvan starring Ram Charan in the lead. The Telugu filmmakers wanted to keep the decks clear for at least two weeks, for the film to emerge a blockbuster at the box office.
Now, the trail of destruction left behind by cyclone Vardha has forced the filmmakers to put the release on hold.
Meanwhile, actor Vishal’s Kathi Sandai, which was slated for a Pongal release next year, is likely to get preponed to take advantage of Singam 3 postpone. “#KaththiSandai and #okkadochadu surprise official announcement Tom Mrng,” the actor tweeted last night.
Singam 3 is the third instalment in the super cop series, created by director Hari. The expectations from the film are already high compared to its prequels.
The film has music from Harris Jayaraj, who has composed several memorable songs for Suriya’s films in the past. After finishing Singam 3, director Hari will helm the sequel to his 2003 blockbuster Saamy, with Vikram and Trisha in the lead roles.
