Tamil superstar Vijay’s latest film Sarkar has taken a massive opening at the box office both in domestic and international markets. The film has, reportedly, minted a whopping Rs 30 crore on its opening day.
According to reports, the opening day collection of Sarkar has overtaken the first day business of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala. The Vijay starrer has done well despite the government restriction on the number of times the film can be screened in a theater.
The movie is also doing very well overseas. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted the overseas figures of Sarkar. In one tweet, he said, “#Sarkar mania grips #UK… A midweek release [Tuesday], yet the #Tamil biggie has embarked on an AWESOME start in #UK… In fact, such impressive numbers *on a weekday* are a rarity in this market… Tuesday £ 122,513 [₹ 1.17 cr] / 42 locations @comScore.”
He also posted the Australia figures of the movie, which are “fantabulous” according to him. The tweet read, “#Sarkar sets #Australia BO on 🔥🔥🔥… Although the #Tamil biggie opened in #Australia on Tuesday [working day], the response is FANTABULOUS… Tuesday A$ 219,090 [₹ 1.16 cr] / 39 locations. This is one of the BIGGEST STARTS by an Indian film in #Australia. @comScore.”
In France, too, Sarkar delivered the goods. Adarsh said, “#Sarkar opens to SUPERB footfalls in #France… The #Tamil biggie opened on Monday [working day], yet the admissions are higher than most #Hollywood / #European films in #France… Mon 2149 Tue 3854 Total: 6003 admissions Note: #France reports Admissions, not Gross BO. @comScore.”
The political drama is the third collaboration of director AR Murugadoss and Vijay. The actor-director duo’s previous films Thuppakki and Kaththi were blockbusters too. Going by the trend, Sarkar will a bigger hit than the duo’s previous outings.
