Raju Gari Gadhi 2, which is actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s first film to release post her wedding to Naga Chaitanya, has taken a good start at the box office. She has played an extended cameo in the latest horror comedy film, which has her star father-in-law Nagarjuna Akkineni in the lead role.
The first day worldwide collection of the film is Rs 8.4 crore, reported Andhraoboxoffice.com.
The film has raked in Rs 6.1 crore in Nizam region and Andhra Pradesh, while in the other markets it earned Rs 1.3 crore. The film has collected Rs 1 crore at the US box office, said the same report.
Raju Gari Gadhi 2, which is directed by Ohmkar, is the official remake of Malayalam film Pretham. The film has opened to mixed reactions from critics and it is expected to continue a good run through the weekend, given that it has no major rival at the box office.
The film revolves around Rudra, a mentalist, who unmasks the perpetrator responsible for forcing a law college student, played by Samantha to commit suicide. The film that deals with online voyeurism and the ill-effects of it on its victims is deemed very relevant in the light of “Suchi leaks” that created a storm in the South Indian film industry earlier this year.
“You all know about the leaks controversy (Suchi leaks) on social media. My character is very close to every girl in that video. It also gives a message to every person who circulated, opened, saw and laughed at those videos,” Samantha told Deccan Chronicle.
Besides, Nagarjuna and Samantha, the film also stars Seerat Kapoor, Ashwin Babu in important roles.
