Raayan box office collection day 1: Dhanush delivers biggest opening of his career, action-thriller out-performs Karnan

Raayan box office collection day 1: Dhanush’s 50th movie, Raayan, had a good start at the box office on Friday. The Tamil-language action-thriller film, written and directed by the actor himself, earned over Rs 12 crore on its first day of release, according to early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk. Raayan marks Dhanush’s second directorial venture and stars SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, and Sundeep Kishan, among others, in supporting roles.

According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 12.5 crore on its first day, with Rs 11 crore coming from the Tamil version, and Rs 1.5 crore from the film’s Telugu version. Raayan has surpassed the opening day collection of Dhanush’s previous film, Karnan (Rs 10.4 crore), becoming the star’s biggest opener. Raayan had an overall Tamil occupancy of 58.65% with over 79.99% theatre occupancy at night. The film witnessed massive occupancy in Chennai (72%), followed by Puducherry (74.75%), Mumbai (61%), Bengaluru (40.75%), and Delhi-NCR (20%).

The film witnessed an overall occupancy of just 7.1% in Hindi-speaking regions. The highest theatre occupancy in the Hindi language was witnessed in Pune (18.67%) with a total of 43 shows, followed by Lucknow (11%) with a total of 7 shows, and then Jaipur (10.33 %) and Chandigarh (10%). There was zero occupancy during the morning shows in Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhopal, and Lucknow, according to Sacnilk.

Raayan opened to mixed reviews, and revolves around a fast-food restaurant owner who goes on a revenge mission against a gangster. First announced in January last year, the film was originally scheduled to release on June 13.
