Filmmaker Mohan Raja had in August confirmed he is working on a sequel to Thani Oruvan. The director took to Twitter on Sunday to share photos of his friend BS Mubarak, a Civil Service Executive and an Indian Ambassador designate to Guatemala, who is the inspiration behind the script of the Thani Oruvan films.
Sharing photos of BS Mubarak, Mohan Raja wrote, “When TO is on Tv again😍happy I’m working on the sequel wit my best friend for 35 years, d man behind my inspiration to highlight a civil service executive .. B.S.Mubarak, Indian Foreign service, Indian Ambassador designate to Guatemala.”
A source close to the director revealed that he has completed the final version of the Thani Oruvan 2 script. “For now, there are no details about the cast and crew except Jayam Ravi reprising his role as Mithran IPS. We need to wait and watch if the same actors including Nayanthara and Arvind Swami are being cast,” added the source.

Months ago, Mohan Raja, in a video, had said the premise of the sequel will be grander than Thani Oruvan.
Thani Oruvan was remade in Telugu as Dhruva and in Bengali as One. It was speculated that the film would be remade in Hindi with Arjun Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra. However, an official announcement on the same is awaited.
