Seasoned Tamil filmmaker K Bhagyaraj has courted controversy by sharing his views on crimes against women at the audio release function of upcoming film Karuthukalai Pathivu Sei.
Bhagyaraj said a woman is wronged only when she lets it happen in the first place. His solution: put restrictions on women. “Back in the day, there were certain restrictions on women. But with the inception of telephone, those restrictions have gone,” he observed.
The filmmaker suggested that women are out of control these days, courtesy mobile phones. He added, “Can’t thread a needle without its permission.”
“Women create a situation that allows mistakes to happen. Things will be alright if you (women) behave correctly. You can’t always only blame boys,” he said. His remarks were met with cheers and applause from the audience.
Bhagyaraj did not stop at that. He went on to hold the survivors of the infamous Pollachi case morally responsible for the crimes that were committed against them. “Only boys were not at fault in the Pollachi case. They just exploited the weakness of yours (girls). You gave them that opportunity and that is a big mistake,” the filmmaker argued.
That’s not all. K Bhagyaraj said a man is emotionally well-equipped to handle affairs with multiple women. He feels a woman can’t deal with multiple partners. The filmmaker claimed that a man can provide for both his partners and keep them satisfied. “We read in newspapers about a wife killing her husband, her baby to be with her lover. That’s why ladies should be in control. They should keep themselves in a limit. Self-regulate themselves,” he said.
