Iru Kodugal (1969), starring Gemini Ganesan, Sowcar Janaki, Jayanthi and Nagesh, will be screened at the 50th edition of IFFI, under the Golden Lining Indian Films section.
Directed by late filmmaker K Balachander, Iru Kodugal is based on a stage play of the same name, written by Joseph Anandan.
Iru Kodugal won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil, and Sowcar Janaki received the State Award for Best Actress.
The film was remade as Collector Janaki (Telugu), Eradu Rekhegalu (Kannada) and Sanjog (Hindi).
Movies in other languages including Bengali, Odiya, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Assamese and Malayalam will also be screened at IFFI 2019.
According to a press release, the festival will witness over 200 films from 76 countries, and it will be held from November 20-28 in Panaji, Goa. Around 10,000 film lovers are expected to participate in the event.
Feature films under Golden Lining Indian Films category include Varakatnam by N. T. Rama Rao, Dr. Bezbarua by Brajen Barua, Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne by Satyajit Ray, Nanak Nam Jahaz Hai by Ram Maheshwary, Satyakam by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Stree by Siddharth, Tambdi Mati by Bhalji Pendharkar, Uyyale by N. Lakshminarayan, Aradhana by Shakti Samanta and Adimakal by K. S. Sethumadhavan.
