Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, the two titans of Tamil cinema, rarely endorse each other’s films publicly. However, today, this stance changed for good. Kamal, who is celebrating his 65th birthday today, joined a social media promotional campaign for Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Darbar. He unveiled the motion poster of Darbar along with actors from other film industries.
The motion poster shows Rajinikanth in an action avatar. He is wielding a sword and wreaking havoc in the enemy’s camp. He seems to be a cop who plays fast and loose with the rules to keep the criminals in check.
Darbar is a special film for fans of Rajinikanth, as the actor is playing a cop for the first time in 25 years. His last cop role was Pandian, which came out in 1992. And his powerful performance as Alex Pandian from Moondru Mugam (1982) remains a favourite cop character.
Darbar, which means a king’s court, is set in the backdrop of Mumbai. Written and directed by AR Murugadoss, the 167th film of Rajinikanth is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The film also features Nayanthara as the female lead. She will be sharing screen space with Rajinikanth after a gap of 12 years. Her last Rajinikanth film was Kuselan, which came out in 2008. Actors Prateik Babbar, Dilip Tahil, Suniel Shetty, Nivetha Thomas, Yogi Babu, Thambi Ramaiya, Sriman, Jatin Sarna and Nawab Shah will be seen in pivotal roles.
The regular shooting of the film began in April in Mumbai and it was completed in October. The post-production work is currently going on. It is scheduled to hit the screens for Pongal 2020.
Rajinikanth will next start shooting for an untitled film with director Siva.
