As Rajinikanth turns 66, PM Narendra Modi, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar share special wishes

Fans and industry friends have been flooding social media with greetings and wishes as superstar Rajinikanth celebrates his 66th birthday on Monday. With the recent demise of late Tamil Nadu chief Minister Jayalalithaa and his friend Cho Ramaswamy, Rajinikanth has requested his fans not to celebrate his birthday. Traditionally, his fans celebrate his birthday with social welfare drives, re-releasing his old blockbusters in theatres and putting up big banners and posters of the actor around the city. The makers of his cult classic Baasha, 1995 gangster film, had planned to re-release the digital version of the film to mark the celebrations. However, now it has been put on hold.

#HBDSuperstarRajinikanth is the top trending hashtag on Twitter since last night. Besides fans, who’s who of the country have been wishing the matinee idol on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Rajinikanth a long and happy life on his Twitter page. “Happy birthday @superstarrajini! Wishing you a long life filled with good health,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan also wished happiness and good health to Rajinikanth. “It is Rajnikant’s birthday on Dec 12th and we wish him greater glory happiness and good helath ..,” he tweeted.

Actor Akshay Kumar, who is superstar’s co-actor in the forthcoming film 2.0, termed Rajinikanth as “supreme galaxy of stars. “When you know you’re in the Presence of Greatness!! Happy Birthday Dearest @superstarrajini Sir, the Supreme Galaxy to our SuperStars,” he tweeted.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan shared a still from his Lungi Dance song, which was created as a tribute to Rajinikanth while wishing him on his birthday. “2 the coolest & greatest of em all. Wishing u health happiness & years of entertainment for us.Happy B’Day Thalaivaa,” he tweeted.

Cricket icon Virender Sehwag also tweeted his wishes to the Thalaivar. “Then ,Now and Forever, one and only @superstarrajini , #HBDSuperstarRajinikanth .India’s most loved star, Thalaiva !”
