Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam, which was supposed to hit screens for 2024 Pongal, was postponed and released on February 9. Despite avoiding competition with biggies like Captain Miller and Ayalaan, the film failed to make an impact at the box office as it has only managed to earn Rs 16 crore in a matter of 12 days from India. However, Lyca Productions, which bankrolled the movie, has claimed that the movie was a success in a new tweet.

Lyca Productions shared a photo of Rajinikanth, Aishwarya, AR Rahman, and other crew members and wrote, “Thanks for the huge support from the people. Successful two weeks of Lal Salaam, into third week today.” The picture had Rajinikanth holding the arms of the film’s composer AR Rahman, who was clad in a vibrant outfit. Aishwarya and her crew stood around the two icons.

While Lyca Productions has called the film successful, the box office collection reports tell a different story. On the opening day of Lal Salaam, the movie managed to earn Rs 4.5 crore, which is a meager number for a film with Rajinikanth in it. The collection saw a downward spiral from Day 2 as the reviews from both critics and the audience weren’t favorable to the movie.

Also starring Vishnu Vishal, Vikranth, Thambi Ramaiah, and Senthil in important roles, Lal Salaam is about a rural village called Muradbad, where Hindus and Muslims live in harmony. However, a political party uses a cricket tournament to create communal tension. Despite having a topical message, Lal Salaam failed to make an impact due to poor execution and underwhelming usage of the stardom of Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth will return to the silver screen with TJ Gnanavel’s Vettaiyan, which has Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati in pivotal roles.
