Ira Dubey who made her film debut in Aisha four years ago is now waiting for the release of her second film Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend. The film came to her directly from Japinder Kaur, a Dubai based girl who is the director of the film. What attracted Dubey to the film was working with Divyendu Sharma who like her, comes from a theatre background.
“I waited for so long after Aisha because as an actor I wanted diversity. I was very excited because the film was from a pretty commercial space and then working with a young woman director was exciting. I play Nimmi, a Delhi girl who is full of life and shall resonate with the young people of today, but is more straightforward than my character in Aisha who was also a Delhi girl. She wants to prove herself after getting married, as most young girls want to today,” said Dubey, adding that the film is a comic caper and very realistic.
In fact, Dubey has two more films coming up, an Indie film called M Cream, a road trip with Imaad Shah. A majority of the film was filmed in Himachal Pradesh and has been doing the festival circuit since August last year. “The film is the journey of Imaad andmy characters with two others. While he comes from an affluent Delhi family I am a Bengali girl. It’s a fun film directed by a young enthusiastic boy called Agenya Singh,” said the young actress.
Then there’s also Aisa Yeh Jahaan which is being directed by an Assamese gentleman named Ajit Bora who has worked with Jahnu Barua. “I play the lead opposite Palash Sen in the film who makes a comeback to the screen after a long time ( Filhaal),” she said adding that she finished shooting for thefilm four months ago. The actress hopes that all the three films will release this year. “Otherwise I am very grateful that Ihave theatre in my life. It keeps me grounded and busy.”
