Bang Bang Bang Bang

As some of the most anticipated movies of the year are up for release, it also seems to be the season of new songs and videos with new offerings on a regular basis. The first musical extravaganza presented last week was Indianwaale, the first song from the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year. The peppy dance number, also touted as the film’s anthem, has a catchy tune with well composed music by Vishal-Shekhar. The lyrics, penned by Irshad Kamil, have the right spirit of competition, making it the perfect anthem for the Indiawaale team, who look amazing in their respective outfits in the video. Crooned by Vishal Dadlani, K.K., Shankar Mahadevan and Neeti Mohan, the song is full of enthusiasm.
Maa ka phone, a track from Sonam Kapoor’s upcoming film Khoobsurat, is another track that has been released. Kapoor showed a lot of excitement about the song on Twitter. Known for her quirky compositions, Sneha Khanwalkar has mixed several electronic beats with the sounds of the mobile keypad and ringtone to create an unusual mix. The song underlines the storyline as it explains how and why the protagonist’s mother keeps calling her all day. However, it failed to impress us as there’s nothing extraordinary about it and the lyrics are repetitive.
However, what kept the spirits high is the second track from Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif starrer Bang Bang. The soft, contemporary romantic number – Meherbaan, opens on a great note with slow beats followed by electronic beats and strumming of the guitar. Meherbaan grows on the listener’s mind with every repeated hear, as Shilpa Rao and Ash King’s beautiful duet rendition creates magic (and so does the chemistry between Roshan and Kaif in the video). Additional vocals by Shekhar Ravjiani are also decent. Both Anvita Datt and Kumaar create a mesmerising world of love with their words and the duo have managed to get the perfect catch phrase – Meherbaan – which is both simple to remember and catchy. Go ahead, hear this number and fall in love all over again.
