Things are looking up for actor Sonam Kapoor. After her film Khoobsurat‘s good run at the box-office last year and a whacky film like Dolly Ki Doli up for release, Kapoor will now be seen in a serious avatar. The actor has been approached to play the slain air-hostess, Neerja Bhanot.
Neerja Bhanot was the senior flight attendant on the Pan Am Flight 73. The flight that originated from Mumbai was hijacked by four heavily armed terrorists in Karachi on September 5, 1986. After 17 hours of being trapped, Bhanot bravely opened the emergency exit and helped many passengers escape, and soon the hijackers opened fire. Unfortunately, Bhanot was shot while shielding three kids from a hail of bullets. The 23-year-old became the youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra Award for her bravery.
According to her spokesperson, Kapoor is very interested in the film. However, the contract is still being finalised. With Kapoor being busy with Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, the dates need to be worked upon. Reportedly, the film will be directed by ad film-maker Ram Madhwani and written by Saiwyn Quadras of Mary Kom fame.
