Director and theatre personality Shomshuklla Das, who received critical-acclaim for her debut film, Sandcastle, has begun work on her next film which will be a bi-lingual. The film is based on Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s popular romantic novella, Shesher Kobita.
Confirming the news, Shomshukkla said, “The response that I got for my debut film gave me the confidence to present more work. I have been writing plays since 2006, but writing a script for a film was a completely different experience. For my next, I am working on an adaptation of Tagore’s Shesher Kobita, one of the most popular novellas that made him immortal.”
The cast comprises Shahana Chatterjee and Uditvanu Das, who were part of her debut film as well, along with Sohini Mukherjee. The shooting took off in Goa and the film will be presented in both Bengali and English. “The film mainly revolves around three characters and celebrates romance. It shows love as an eternal journey in life.”
Although her earlier film saw a limited release through the PVR Director’s Rare initiative in seven cities, Das is keen on releasing her next in other cities and some more screens. “I was very happy with the limited release strategy. My only goal right now is to focus on this project. The release strategy will be worked upon later,” stated Das.
