Media veteran Sameer Nair recently joined Balaji Telefilms as the Group CEO. The announcement was made by the company on Bombay Stock Exchange last week.
Nair, the former CEO of Star India, was seen as the CEO of Imagine TV (formerly known as NDTV Imagine) in his last outing in the media industry in 2011.
About his new role, Nair in a press statement said, “I have enjoyed a wonderful association with the Kapoor family since 2000 following the launch of the hugely successful ‘K-series’ on Star Plus and later with their shows on Imagine. Undoubtedly, the team has done a remarkable job of creating one of the most vibrant entities in content generation. The M&E industry is currently at a very dynamic stage and will continue to present several exciting opportunities across all segments, heralding significant change in times to come. Given Balaji’s several strength as a business, it is very well poised to capitalise on emerging growth prospects.”
Nair has been credited for changing the face of Star Plus in 2000 by launching Kaun Banega Crorepati with Amitabh Bachchan as the host, besides launching the hugely popular K-serials from the Balaji banner. However, after Imagine TV, Nair turned entrepreneur and collaborated with other friends from the industry to form One Entertainment Network, Pride Rock Entertainment (Films) and Pride Rock Television (TV). He also had a brief stint in politics when he joined Aam Aadmi Party recently.
While we couldn’t manage to get in touch with him even after repeated attempts, it would be interesting to see how his new role works in the favour of Balaji Telefilms.
