There was a lot of speculation about who would play the lead when Prakash Jha announced that the sequel to his highly successful 2003 flick Gangaajal would have a female protagonist. The prequel had Ajay Devgn playing the dynamic Superintendent of Police. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was a name which had come up, but now we hear that Priyanka Chopra is likely to do the film. According to a reliable source, Chopra has liked the script of the film and shown interest in doing it. “You can say that there is a 70 per cent chance that she will do the film. But things will only be locked once she is back from her vacation.”
Knowing Jha and his penchant for making hard hitting films, the actor’s role in Gangaajal 2 is bound to be something that is extraordinary and intriguing. And after seeing her as the spirited Mary Kom in last year’s Mary Kom, the actress is sure to be very effective.
Meanwhile, Chopra also has her home production Madamji in which she will play an item girl turned politician, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, not to forget her high profile TV show with ABC.
We messaged Jha, but the film-maker didn’t respond.
