If the first poster of Rajukumar Hirani’s PK, that had lead actor Aamir Khan in the buff with only a transistor covering his private parts, grabbed a zillion eyeballs, well there is more to come. The film will be promoted through 8-10 posters that will be released periodically till the movie releases on December 19.
“Every film has its own requirement and how it’s going to be marketed. The images of the characters in a film tell their own story. And though there will be a trailer for PK which will be released closer to the release, we have a poster campaign that will present a new look and side of the characters every time,” informed Khan at an event to launch the second poster of the film which incidentally had the actor covered from head to toe!
Talking about the response to the first one, the actor retorted with a smile. “We didn’t know what to expect, but the reactions we have received are very strong. Some people have liked it a lot, while others felt why Raju (Hirani), Aamir and Vinod (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) are doing this kind of publicity. I want to tell them when they watch the film, they will understand that this is an important image which will tell you the story. Neither Raju, Vinod and I would do anything just to create a sensation. We do what is creatively correct. We wanted a strong response and we got it. There are some very good jokes that different people have put on the internet, Facebook, Twitter, while others have made their own designs and their own pose, and we loved what they have done. The film industry’s reaction has also been good and many have called to tell me, ‘kamaal ka poster hai’, said Khan.
The trio is happy at the Chief Justice of India, Rajendra Mal Lodha’s response to the PIL that was filed against the first poster, saying – ‘it’s art and entertainment and if anyone didn’t like it they needn’t see it’ . “It’s a very mature response and all of us were very happy to read that response. I agree with him. I don’t see any vulgarity in the poster. One can be vulgar with clothes on, or through gestures or movements. And I must mention that all the posters that will be released are images and stills captured during the shoot and are moments from the film. We have not made any special poster shoot,” revealed the actor.
When asked if the other actors like leading lady Anushka Sharma would also be seen on the posters, Khan said that every character in the film is important and no less than the hero or heroine. “A film is always promoted according to the requirement of the story and what you want to present, and Anushka’s part will be presented at the correct time.”
As for his character being an alien, the actor smiled and cryptically stated that he would not like to comment on that nor reveal the story, except that he would be speaking in Bhojpuri throughout the film.
